Description
Admiration Barberry is a three-season color factory. Its amazing new leaves emerge radiant red edged in neon yellow while the mature leaves are deep maroon with the same neon yellow edges. In fall, foliage turns to brilliant deep orange. Exceptionally low maintenance and drought tolerant. Anybody can grow this plant as long as the soil is well-drained!
Landscape & Garden Uses
Growing about 1 to 2 feet tall and 2 feet wide, Admiration Barberry is ideal for use as a colorful accent or specimen, in groupings, in mass as a border or on slopes and embankments. Its high drought tolerance makes it an ideal choice for the Xeriscape (low water needs) and it’s a fine addition to rock gardens and red theme gardens.
Admiration Barberry combines well with sedums, junipers, ornamental grasses, yucca, and other drought tolerant plants that thrive in sun and well-drained soil.
Suggested Spacing: 1.5 to 2 feet apart for solid border or hedge; 4 feet or more apart for space between plants

How Many Plants Needed To Cover A Planting Area?
Note: For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 4a, where this Barberry is not winter hardy, you’ll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.
Growing Preferences
Barberry are exceptionally easy to grow when planted right and in the right spot. They prefer a well-drained soil and all the sun you can give them. Coloration is more intense with more sun. As with so many other ornamental landscape shrubs, barberry does not like a constantly soggy or wet soil. When established, plants are very drought tolerant, requiring supplemental irrigation only during prolonged periods of summer drought. We’ve seen no insect or disease problems.

This is my first purchase of a plant on the internet and I bought this plant for my mother because I “admire” her so much. She said the barberry plant didn’t have any damage from shipping. She said it hasn’t put out any leaves yet so will update later to 5 stars if it does. Would recommend Wilson Brothers to friends. ——————– WBG Reply: Hi Peter – Love your story…might have to do the same for a special woman in my life.
